Fire on BSC oil tanker Bangla Shourabh, died one sailor
Within a short span of time, the oil tanker fire again, BSC is fearing sabotage.
Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) Managing Director Commodore Mahmudul Malek fears that the fire in two consecutive oil tankers of BSC is an attempt to disrupt national energy security.
On Saturday (October 5) morning, he informed the press conference at the BSC conference room.
He said there was no work on the ship at 12:30 pm. Fire is seen at four points on the ship so I fear it is sabotage.
He also said that a few days ago there was a fire in the Jyoti of Bengal. Then there was a fire in the fragrance of Bengal. Therefore, we think that this incident is an attempt to threaten national energy security.
Those involved in this incident should be identified.
He said that it was supposed to be the last service of shourabh Bengal. 7 tugs of Navy, Coast Guard and Port work simultaneously. An hour and a half after the fire was extinguished, it caught fire again. He said, Shourabh of Bengal had 11 thousand 55 tons of crude oil. There were 48 crew and watchmen. They were rescued alive. Meanwhile, BSc Stuart Sadek Mia died on the way to hospital. An eight-member investigation committee headed by the technical director of BSC has been formed.
On Friday (October 4), a fire broke out in Sourave, Bengal at around 1:15 a.m. BSC MD also said that legal action will be taken if sabotage is confirmed in the investigation committee’s report. BSC transports 12-14 lakh tonnes of BPC’s crude oil annually. These oils are imported from abroad in big ships and brought to outer anchorage. Then BSC Bangla Jyoti and Bangla Shourabh were loaded into the sea and given to Eastern Refinery at Karnaphuli River Dolphin Jetty.
Before this, on September 30, 1987, there was an explosion and fire in the front of BSC’s ‘Banglar Jyoti’ ship made in Denmark. The Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Karnaphuli Tunnel, Port and Fire Services are working to put out the fire.
