Ex MP Ekramul Karim arrested in Chattogram
Former Member of Parliament of Noakhali-4 (Sadar and Subarnachar) Constituency and Noakhali District Awami League Leader Md. RAB-7 arrested Ekramul Karim Chowdhury. He was arrested around 11:30 last night. A murder case was registered against him at Noakhali’s Sudharam Model Police Station on September 8.
Meanwhile, during the arrest, cash of 10 lakh taka, 16 thousand 200 US dollars, 2 thousand 124 Singapore dollars, 4 ATM cards were seized from the accused Ekramul Haque Chowdhury. RAB-7 captain Lt. Col. Mahbub Alam confirmed this.
Former MP of Noakhali-4 Aan and former General Secretary of District Awami League Mohammad Ekramul Karim Chowdhury has been sent to jail. Judge Sajjad Hossain of the Noakhali Senior Judicial Magistrate Court ordered him to be sent to prison at around 7 am on Wednesday (October 2). He was then taken to the district jail.
According to RAB, on February 28, 2013, BNP-Jamaat called for nationwide morning-evening hartal. At that time Dutta’s hut area of Sonapur-Maijdi road of Noakhali was taken out in support of the hartal. When the procession was shot randomly, Md. A transport worker named Khokon (17) was shot dead. Mojibul Haque, the father of Khokon, who was killed in this incident on September 8, filed a murder case with the names of 53 people including Ekramul Karim in Sudharam police station of Noakhali district.
There are two murder cases against him in Noakhali’s Sudharam and Sonaimuri police stations, one explosive case and four cases of kidnapping in different police stations.
Incidentally, Ekramul Karim Chowdhury was elected as MP for the first time in the 9th national parliament election held on December 29, 2008. Later, he was re-elected MP in the 10th, 11th and 12th National Parliament elections. Before this, in the 2001 national elections, Ekramul contested in the Noakhali-5 seat as an independent candidate without getting the Awami League ticket in the Noakhali-4 seat and lost.
Ekramul Karim Chowdhury’s wife Kamrun Nahar Shiuli was the chairman of Noakhali’s Kabirhat Upazila Parishad. His son Atahar Ishrak Shabab Chowdhury is the last elected chairman of Subarnachar Upazila Parishad. Besides, Ekramul’s nephew Zahirul Haque Raihan was the mayor of Kabirhat municipality.
