Attack on houses Laldighi for supporting the student protest; a case of looting
Allegations of attacks and house vandalism have been made on former BNP MP and Disaster and Relief Minister Prof. Arif Moinuddin, a local resident of Chittagong’s Laldighi area, and his family for distributing food and supporting the movement of students and participants in the anti-discrimination student movement. Arif Moinuddin’s nephew businessman Tarin Mohiuddin Azim filed a case in Chittagong Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court with SM Ahmad Hosain as the main accused in this incident.
According to the case, During the anti-discrimination student movement in July, the students started protesting their demands through rallies, processions and meetings. The uncle of the victim, Professor Arif Moinuddin, was a former minister and MP during Ziaur Rahman’s tenure. Directly supported and participated in the anti-discrimination student movement as a conscious citizen. To suppress the anti-discrimination student movement, the then dictatorial government used its local activists and mercenary Mastans to attack the student gatherings and march meetings to keep the protesting students away from the movement. On the orders of his uncle, Tareen provided water, biscuits and other food items to the students participating in the student movement. Infuriated with this, led by SM Ahmad Hosain and Md Shahjahan, they looted the shop at Azim Center and Orion Tower in Laldighi and beat the staff of the building including Moktar Kazi. It carries the important goods of that building.
The affidavit also mentions that SCAP Construction Pvt. the victim’s business partner’s business located on the 4th floor of Azim Center headed by Ahmad Hosain. Ltd. By breaking the door lock of his office room, he entered the room and broke the drawer and stole 5 check books and various important documents and cash of Rs. 1 steel almirah and 1 fridge along with some other items were looted with a total value of approximately Rs.1,50,000/-(one lakh fifty thousand). The accused also stole antique and rare valuable furniture and sheel stone tables worth about Rs.
Tarin Mohiuddin Azim, the plaintiff in the case, said, Last July, we distributed dry food and water among the sick and tired protesting students in different areas including New Market Kotwali of the city. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Awami teamed up with terrorists and due to previous enmity, SM Ahmed Hoshain beat my uncle, former minister Prof. Arif Moinuddin and Azim Center employee Moktar Kazi without finding me. I wish the culprits to be punished in this incident.
When the accused Ahmad Hoshain contacted the mobile phone to inquire about this, he did not receive the call.
Regarding the case, Kotwali Police Station Officers-in-charge Muhammad Fazlul Quader Chowdhury said that the case is under investigation and the operation to nab the accused is continuing.
In the anti-discrimination student movement, when the students risked their lives to demand the downfall of the dictatorial Awami government, the Awami officials looted their own sugarcane. If the Awami leaders and activists found out if anyone cooperated or supported the student movement, inhuman torture descended on those who supported the movement. Laldighir This incident is also an example of that. Therefore, the locals demand that those involved be brought under the law.
