Clashes took place at Anwara, Chottogram where two groups of Upazila Awami League were celebrating the proposed budget and held a discussion meeting.

This incident happened on Friday (June 7) around 4:30 pm in the center area of ​​the upazila.

According to sources, the local Awami League announced the program of the Anand procession at 4 pm on Friday, welcoming the budget proposed by the government for the fiscal year 2024-25. After the Friday prayers, the leaders and activists began to gather in piecemeal processions.

At one stage, the leaders and activists were divided into two parties. Later the supporters of both sides got involved in a clash. At least 18 people, including Anwara Upazila Awami League president Professor MA Mannan Chowdhury and former UP chairman of Barumchara, were seriously injured.

Among them, Professor MA Mannan Chowdhury was rescued in a serious condition and sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

On receiving the information, several teams of Anwara Thana Police and Port Outpost Police have been deployed in the area. There is still tension in the area.

Anwara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sohail Ahmed said, the situation is under control. The injured were rescued and sent to the medical center. Additional police have been deployed at the spot.
