3 lakh 78 thousand 350 cigarettes of two brands have been seized in the operation of the regional anti-smuggling task force. On June 2, raids were conducted at the warehouse of Heritage Tobacco Limited (Sharif & Sons, Haji Rafiqul Islam Bhavan) in Bara Kumira Sandwip Ghat area of ​​Sitakunda.

NSI District Office, Assistant Commissioner (Land), Chittagong Regional Office of Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation conducted the operation jointly.

In this case, a case of tax evasion under the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duties Act, 2012 and a criminal case under the Special Powers Act, 1974 for government bandroll/stamp forgery are in progress.

Ayesha Siddika said, two brands of cigarettes were seized on suspicion of fake bandrolls/stamps and when samples were sent for confirmation, the Security Printing Corporation Bangladesh Limited in Gazipur reported that the bandrolls and stamps were fake. He also said that the market value of seized cigarettes is Tk 17 lakh 2 thousand 575. The amount of revenue evasion is 12 lakh 42 thousand 880 taka.
