Chittagong Public transport has announced a strike of 48 hours.
The Greater Chittagong Public Transport Owners Sramik Oikya Parishad has called for a 48-hour strike in five districts of Chittagong with four demands, including setting fire to three buses in Chuet, withdrawal of cases against linemen and transport workers, and release. This program will start today Sunday from 6 am.
The matter was confirmed to The Daily Morning Glory by Member Secretary of Parishad and President of Chittagong Region of Transport Workers Federation Mohammad Mucha. He said that in the last three months, five cases have been registered against linemen, transport owners and workers in different police stations of Chittagong. Many have been arrested. Being arrested for talking about extortion. Due to this, 48 hours strike will be observed. The decision to strike was taken last Thursday through a meeting.
When asked, Khorshed Alam, convenor of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban owners-workers joint committee, said that there was a meeting between transport owners and workers today on Saturday afternoon. It was decided to go on a strike to demand the withdrawal of cases and arrests, the release of owners and workers, the complete stoppage of illegal vehicles on the road, protesting the blocking of buses at various places and compensation for the three buses burnt in Chute.
Khorshed Alam said that no public transport and long-distance buses will operate in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Khagrachari, Rangamati and Bandarban. 80 percent public transport of Chittagong city will be closed.
