A Sharjah-bound passenger with 90,000 UAE dirhams has been detained from Chittagong’s Shah Amanat International Airport. Which is equal to 27 lakh Bangladeshi Taka or 23 thousand 684 dollars. He was arrested by NSI Chittagong Airport team and airport customs detectives jointly on Friday (April 26) around 7 pm.

Airport Director Group Captain Taslim Ahmed confirmed the matter. According to sources, the passenger named Mohammad Qaiser Hamid of Boalkhali was searched and interrogated at the international anti-hijacking gate of the airport terminal. He was traveling to Sharjah overnight on Air Arabia flight G9-521.
The airport customs detective is preparing to file a case against the passenger under the Money Laundering Act at the Patenga Model Police Station.
The recovered foreign currencies will be handed over to Airport Customs through Customs Intelligence, which will then be seized by the government.

As the said passenger tried to go abroad with foreign currency exceeding the prescribed amount (maximum 12 thousand US dollars or any other foreign currency of its equivalent value in 1 year) according to the foreign exchange policy, all the foreign currency found with him was seized along with the passenger.
