A bloody body of a Polish citizen was found in a room of the elite Peninsula Residential Hotel in Chittagong. Police said he had injuries on his head and various parts of his body. It is suspected that he was murdered.
On Monday (March 4) afternoon, the police went to the hotel called ‘The Peninsula Chittagong’ at GEC intersection of Chawkbazar police station of the city after getting information from the concerned authorities.
The hotel records mention the deceased as ZDZISLAW MICHAL CZERYBA. Age 58 years. Canpark Garments in CEPZ of the city is mentioned as the workplace.
City Police Deputy Commissioner (South) Mostafizur Rahman, who went to the spot, said that he was working in the Dhaka office of a Polish buying house. Since 2018, he has come to Chittagong several times as a representative of that buying house. He went on holiday to Poland in December last year.
Last February 24, he came to Chittagong on a direct Fly Dubai flight and boarded at the Peninsula Hotel. He came to visit Canpark Garments in CEPZ. He was in room number 905 on the ninth floor of the hotel. His body was found there.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of City Police (ADC-South) Noble Chakma said, ‘Around 12:30 pm, the hotel informed the police station that a person in room 905 was not responding. We came here after getting the news. After opening the door and entering, he was found dead on one side of the bed.
The person who was in regular contact with him on behalf of the buying house informed the hotel authorities that he could not find him from today (Monday) morning. The hotel staff called for a long time from the front door but did not get any response and informed the police.
Deputy Police Commissioner Mostafizur Rahman also said, “Primarily, we think that he has been murdered.” He has injury marks on the back of his head and various parts of his body. He was found bleeding. Various tools were found in random condition inside the room. Besides, more suspicious signs were found. We are scrutinizing the CCTV footage along with the accessories.
Forensic teams of PBI and CID are visiting the spot and collecting evidence. The body was recovered and sent to the morgue of the Forensic Department of Chittagong Medical College. A medical report will be sought regarding the death. This police officer also said that everything will be clear if we get that.
