Kotwali police arrested six thieves with bitumen smuggling and pickup in Chittagong. According to the details of the incident, 10 drums of bitumen were stolen from 4:30 PM on January 22 to 11:00 AM on January 23 from Achadganj Post Office Lane under Kotwali police station. On the night of January 24, Md. was involved in the incident. Shukkur Ali (27), Md. Rashid (38), Md. Arafat (24) and Md. Police arrested Abu Bakkar (26) from Ashraf Ali Road area.

During the interrogation of the arrested Shukkur, it is known that he stole 10 drums of bitumen from the scene with the help of the other three and conveyed it to Manik through the accused Farhad bin Shafi (32). Later, the pickup used in the theft was recovered from Ashraf Ali Road. Accused Farhad bin Shafi was arrested from Malum Masjid area under Sadarghat police station. Later, according to his information, Manik was arrested from Kadmatoli Mor area.

Kotwali police station OC Obaidul Haque told Daily Morning Glory that all of them, including Manik, are part of a bitumen smuggling ring. They have previous charges against them for the same offence.

Those arrested in the police operation are Md. Manik (39), Mohammad Farhad bin Shafi (32), Md. Shukkur Ali (27), Md. Rashid (38), Md. Arafat (24) and Md. Abu Bakr (26). They were arrested from different places of their city by conducting raids from the night of last January 24 till yesterday morning.

Sources say Mustafa & Sons CEO Manik has been involved in bitumen smuggling for many years. He also has an oil shop in kadamtolly, Manik’s cycle is run from there. RAB had arrested 2 members of this gang in a raid once before. A permanent resident of Kadamtali, who did not wish to be named, said that apart from Manik, who is involved in this gang, he has another accomplice in Kadamtali who is now out of touch.
