Kalyan Party’s Syed Muhammad Ibrahim won the Cox’s Bazar1 seat by defeating MP Zafar. Although other parties participated in the elections, the main contest was with Zafar Alam, an independent candidate in Truck Marka. Ibrahim gets the 81955 vote for the watch & Jafar get 52896 vote. However, although there was no major conflict on the polling day, the Chakaria-Pekua seat of Cox’s Bazar was identified as a conflict-filled seat in this election. Earlier, Zafar Alam was the MP in the seat. Being in power for a long time, he created a lot of distance with the common people, including the Awami League. Therefore, after being deprived of the nomination from the party high command, the leaders of the organization, including the Awami League, came out against him. Since then, Zafar and his supporters started making various frightening and bizarre statements in the public relations. Earlier, Zafar was heard criticizing Sheikh Hasina during her election campaign. Meanwhile, he said that Sheikh Hasina’s boat will be sent to Dhaka by truck from Chakria. After his statement, Cox’s Bazar District Awami League also issued a letter suspending him from the post of District Awami League due to violation of party norms. Since then, Zafar has become more reckless with his various cadre forces, his people have threatened people in various ways to vote in trucks despite asking for mass polls. Even a day before the polls, a video of salt snatching a hundred peas from his field and threatening to vote for him is seen going viral on social media. Meanwhile, Zafar came to his Facebook live at noon on the day of voting and announced the boycott of voting. Zafar Alam could not be reached despite repeated calls to inquire about this matter. Meanwhile, after winning, ibrahim expressed his gratitude to the people of Chakaria and Pekua in the media. He also said that the people of Chakaria Pekua were crying to be freed from injustice and oppression. This victory is theirs. This victory against the usurpers and oppressors. For the first time, the Kalyan Party won this one seat by participating in the elections. Which some have termed as a surprise.
