Sumon could not defeat MA Latif, a three-time elected member of parliament, even though he was competitive in the polls. Latif got 51 thousand 494 votes in a total of one hundred and fifty two seats, his nearest rival Ziaul Haque Suman got 46 thousand 525 votes. The election returning officer Mohammad Tofail Islam announced the results on Sunday (January 7) evening.
