Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said there is no scope of escape after committing crime despite having a social status of a parson.

“Noble laureate economist Dr Muhammad Yunus is not above the law and that’s why social status of a particular person won’t be considered in the eye of law”, he said.

Quader also Road Transport and Bridges Minister said this at a press briefing arranged on various contemporary issues at Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina’s political office at Dhanmondi here.

“The court has sentenced Dr Muhammad Yunus, not the Awami League, so why the Awami League will face criticism”, Quader asked.

He added: Dr Yunus has been sentenced by the court and that’s why there is no responsibility of the ruling party.

After being deprived from the dues, concerned workers have filed the case, said the ruling party leader, adding that so, why the government would be criticized?
On the issue of holding inclusive elections, the minister said people have been enthusiastically participating in the election campaigns and it proves that the scheduled January 7 elections would be free, fair and impartial.

Criticizing BNP and its allies, the ruling party leader said BNP and its partners are unilaterally opposing the elections and distributing leaflets, adding there is no scope to postpone the elections whatever the activities BNP and its allies are doing.

Expressing suspicions over the silence of BNP in the name of leaflets distribution, the road transport bridges minister said “BNP is now showing little silence in the name of leaflets distributions, but suddenly they become armed.

Even they [BNP] could be involved in secret attacks as they have taken preparation to this end, he added.

Terming the elections on January 7 as very much important for strengthening the democracy, Quader said elections campaign is going on throughout the country, saying that peoples are spontaneously participating in the electoral rallies and such spontaneous rallies proved that elections will take place on January 7.

“We hope that the elections will be fair and peaceful as the candidates from 28 parties have participated in the polls and the elections are very much inclusive as a whole”, he told the briefing.

“BNP is continuously carrying out arson attacks, even torching buses and trains as the people could be panicked … or even the people could not go to vote”, he said.
