Allegations of obstruction and beating of independent candidate’s campaign; Arrested 6, detained 5

The police have arrested 6 people on charges of obstructing and beating the campaign for an independent candidate in Rupganj of Narayanganj. They were arrested in a special operation in Chanpara area of the upazila on Monday night.
According to the police, on Monday afternoon in Narayanganj-1 constituency, independent candidate and upazila Awami League general secretary Shahjahan Bhuiyan with ‘kettle’ symbol, his supporters and freedom fighters campaigned at Kayetpara UP Chanpara Rehabilitation Center. A local freedom fighter named Mo Chan Mia complained to the police station that the people who were campaigning on the boat obstructed their campaign and beat some people. His complaint was later recorded as a case by Rupganj Thana Police. In the case, 17 people including local UP member Shamser Ali were named and 20-25 others were accused. Later, 6 people were arrested during raids. The police arrested 5 more people as suspects in the same operation.
The arrested are- Eamon Mahmud Robin (25), Sentu Talukder (49), Don Sharif (45), Anisur Rahman Shaon (32), Rasukul alias Rakib (30), Chan Mia (27).
