Rally and discussion meeting on the occasion of Kumarkhali Independence Day

9th December Kumarkhali Liberation Day in Kushtia. On this day in 1971, the freedom-loving people of Kumarkhali hoisted the red-green flag of victory after defeating the Pakistani invaders. On the occasion of the day organized by the upazila administration, Bangabandhu mural wreath laying. Later, a colorful rally went out from the office of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer and went around the road and ended at the same place after laying wreaths at the freedom fighters mass grave.

Later, under the chairmanship of Upazila Executive Officer (Acting) Md. Amirul Arafat, Officer-in-charge Md. Akibul Islam, President of Nagrik Parishad Akram Hossain, heroic freedom fighter Mokaddes Hossain, Solaiman Jowardar, social service officer Mohammad Ali, Roshan Ara Neela and others spoke in the discussion program.

Incidentally: On the morning of December 7, 1971, freedom fighters attacked the camp of Razakars in Kundupara of the city. After receiving the news of fierce battle between the freedom fighters with Razakar Commander Feroze’s forces, the Pak soldiers stationed in Kushtia district town came to Kumarkhali and created panic in the town by firing. When the freedom fighters retreated due to being outnumbered and with insufficient weapons, the Pakistani forces and the Razakars took control of Kumarkhali town and started massacres and arson and looting in various areas of the town. Awami League leader freedom fighter Tosaddek Hossain Nani Mia was martyred in December 7 war. On that day, freedom fighters Bengali Samsuzzaman Swapan, Saifuddin Biswas, Abdul Aziz Molla, Shahadat Ali, Kanchan Kundu, Abu Bakkar Siddique, Ahmed Ali Biswas, Abdul Gani Khan, Samsuddin Khan, Abdul Majeed and Ashutosh Biswas Mangal were killed by the Pakistani invaders. Then on December 9, the freedom fighters again organized themselves and attacked the Pak army camp (now Kumarkhali Upazila Parishad). After a long battle, the Pakistani forces could not withstand the attack of the freedom fighters and quickly fled from the scene. That day Razaka commander Khushi died.
