Upazila Awami League general secretary Shahjahan Bhuiyan has collected nomination papers as an independent candidate from Narayanganj-1 (Rupganj) seat. He collected the nomination form from the hands of Returning Officer and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Faisal Haque on Tuesday afternoon.
After collecting the nomination papers, Shahjahan Bhuiyan said, ‘I wanted nomination of Awami League from Rupganj. Sheikh Hasina called Ganobhaban and said, I can nominate three people in 300 seats. If someone is in organizational responsibility and is popular then he can be elected.’
He also said, ‘I was a candidate for party nomination. Today I took the nomination of independent candidate. I have decided to run as an independent candidate with the love of the people of Rupganj.
Kanchan Municipal Jubo League President and Municipal Mayor Rafiqul Islam Rafiq, Upazila Awami League Former Vice President Khandkar Abul Bashar Tuku, Upazila Awami League Religious Affairs Secretary Mannan Munsi, Rupganj Upazila Awami League Deputy Secretary Obaidul Majid Jewel Master, Union Awami League President Moshiur Rahman Tarek, Narayanganj District Chhatra League organizing secretary Ashiqul Islam Khokon were present at this time.
Incidentally, Minister of Textiles and Jute Golam Dastgir Ghazi has received nomination from Awami League for this seat. He has been elected Member of Parliament from this seat for three consecutive terms. Besides, Trinamool BNP general secretary Taimur Alam Khandkar has bought nomination papers from this seat. As such, there will be a tough fight in the polling arena.
