International Disaster Mitigation Day-2023 was observed at Kumarkhali in Kushtia with the theme ‘Fight against inequality, build a disaster tolerant future’. On Friday morning, on the occasion of the day, organized by the upazila administration, a colorful rally came out from the premises of the upazila administrator’s office and went around the city. Md Maksudul Karim Shimul chaired the meeting under the chairmanship of Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Bitan Kumar Mandal, Upazila Parishad Women Vice Chairman Marina Akter Mena, Social Service Officer Mohammad ALi, Fire Service Station Officer Md Bakhtiar Rahman and others. Speakers said that this day is observed to increase awareness about disasters among common people. If prepared in advance to deal with disasters, it is possible to reduce the loss of life and property. At one time, there was a lot of loss of life and damage in disasters in Bangladesh, but now that is not the case anymore. Besides, they also highlighted the issue of increasing the government’s capacity to deal with disasters. Finally, an earthquake and fire drill was held in the school premises with the participation of fire service members.
