An Awami League leader named Fakhrul Islam (45) died in a head-on collision between a truck and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Charkhai area of Sylhet-Jakiganj road. The accident happened on Sunday (September 10) around 8 pm.

Deceased Fakhrul is the son of deceased Raich Mia of Parkul Barabari of Rajaganj Union of Kanighat Upazila of Sylhet. He was the science and technology affairs secretary of Rajaganj Union Awami League.

According to local and police sources, Fakhrul Islam was coming to Sylhet city in a CNG autorickshaw from Kanighat. At around 8 pm, the auto-rickshaw collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction in Charkhai Bazar area of Sylhet-Jakiganj road. Three people including Fakhrul were seriously injured.
Fakhrul Islam died while rescuing the injured and bringing them to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. The other two injured are undergoing treatment at Osmani Hospital.
