Awami League leader’s son killed for not giving cigarettes

A young man named Mozanmel Hossain Masum died after being stabbed by a junior in a dispute over asking for a cigarette from a senior on the roof.
The incident took place in the transport area of Chatak Cement Factory on the banks of Surma River at around 3 o’clock on Saturday (September 2) night.
Mozanmel Hossain Masum (43), a former member of Purb Norai village of the municipality, son of Ward Awami League president Mofizur Rahman, who was killed by stabbing.
According to local sources, Hossain Kabir (27) asked for a cigarette from Mozammel Hossain Masum in the transport area of Chatak Cement Factory late at night. Machum slaps Kabir and asks for a cigarette from the junior senior without giving him a cigarette. Enraged by this, the two got into an argument. At one point, when Masum attacked Kabir with a knife, Kabir recognized Machum’s knife and escaped by stabbing Machum.
Later, with the help of local people and the police, Humayun Kabir’s son of Bagbari of Chatak municipality from Lafarge factory area. Police arrested Hossain Kabir (27).
Meanwhile, Mozanmel Hossain Masum, who was seriously injured in the stabbing, was taken to Chatak Hospital in the early hours of the morning. After being referred to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Chatak Police Inspector (Investigation) Ariful Alam said that the body is in Sunamganj morgue. The accused involved in the incident has been arrested.
