55 women lawyers have written a letter to the Speaker asking for cancellation of the post of Information Minister

55 women lawyers have written to the Speaker asking for cancellation of the position of Parliamentarian of Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud. They claim, “Despite taking an oath to protect the dignity of the Constitution, the Information Minister made disrespectful, indecent and defamatory statements against women.” ‘

On Thursday, they were the Speaker of the National Parliament. Shirin gave the letter to Sharmin Chowdhury.

The letter referred to a statement by Information Minister Hasan Mahmud addressed to the BNP at a meeting organized by the Bangabandhu Cultural Alliance at the National Press Club in the capital on August 11 and referred to it as ‘baseless, immoral, indecent, gender sensitive and indicative of irresponsibility’.

The lawyers claimed that Hasan Mahmood made ‘disrespectful and defamatory’ statements about the women leaders of BNP.

In the letter, they said, ‘The Prime Minister of the country, the leader of the opposition and the Speaker of the Parliament are all women. When the whole world is looking towards the empowerment of women, such barbaric and ruthless behavior of Hasan Mahmood is against the normal trend of social development.’

They mentioned, ‘Such statement of Minister Hasan Mahmud is in conflict with Article 39 of the Constitution. Apart from this, women are entitled to enjoy equal rights as men according to Articles 27, 28, 29 and 40 of the Constitution. Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. by making disrespectful, indecent and defamatory statements against women despite taking an oath to protect the dignity of the Constitution. Hasan Mahmud has violated the constitution. That is why his membership of Parliament should be cancelled. ‘

Among the Supreme Court lawyers who made the statement are Advocate Fahima Nasreen Munni, Arifa Jasmin Nahin, Shamima Sultana Deepti, Sarkar Tahmina Sandhya, Shamima Akhter Banu, Morjina Raihan Madina, Begum Delwara Habib, Shahanara Begum, Mousumi Akhtar, Ayesha Akhter and others.
