RAB has arrested Shahidul Islam (36), the main accused in the case of rape of a woman abandoned by her husband in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha.

This information was informed in a press release signed by Flight Lieutenant Mahmud Bashir Ahmed of RAB-13 Gaibandha Camp on Monday (August 21) afternoon.

Arrested Shahidul Islam is the son of deceased Echahak Ali of Moradateya village of Palashbari upazila and the victim is a resident of the same village. According to the notification, the victim was living in her father’s house after divorce as she did not live with her previous husband. In the meantime, a love relationship developed with the neighbor Shahidul Islam.

Then on the evening of July 2, he raped the victim against her will in the house of Matiyar Rahman in Harinathpur village with the lure of marriage. When the victim’s relatives came forward, the rapist Shahidul Islam ran away. In this situation, on August 12, the victim plaintiff filed a case at Palashbari police station.

Mahmud Bashir Ahmed said, on Sunday (August 20), the main accused in the rape case, Shahidul Islam, was arrested from Bashirkora area of Adamdighi Upazila in a raid on the basis of secret information.

During preliminary interrogation, arrested Shahidul Islam took advantage of the simplicity of the victim and confessed to forcefully rape her by luring her into marriage.
