A case of rape has been registered in the court against a sub-inspector (SI) of police named Mithun Sarkar (28) in Bogra.
The young victim filed the case at Bogra Women and Children Tribunal-2 on Thursday. Later, the court ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case. At the same time, instructions have been given to submit the report by October 16.
Accused Mithun Sarkar was working as SI in Sherpur police station in Bogra. On August 9, he was temporarily suspended and attached to Bogra Police Lines.
Mithun Sarkar is the son of Sunil Sarkar of Boyra Palpara village in Sherpur Sadar.
It is mentioned in the statement that the complainant is a student of a private university. The student got married due to a love affair while studying at the university. However, the husband’s family did not accept their marriage and they divorced. A few months ago, the aggrieved young woman sought the help of the police in matters related to marriage. Accused Mithun Sarkar took the mobile number of the complainant on the basis of that problem. He developed a friendship with the young woman by offering legal assistance while keeping his religious identity a secret. At one point a love relationship develops between them. On June 3, Mithun Sarkar took the young woman for a walk. The SI raped her that afternoon. At that time Mithun Sarkar promised her marriage after Eid-ul-Azha. Later on June 27, the young woman went to Sherpur police station to meet Mithun. Then he came to know that Mithun Sarkar was a follower of another religion. Later these issues were discussed with him several times. But Mithun Sarkar refused to marry the young lady. In view of this, he filed a case in court.
The lawyer of the victim, Lutfar Rahman, said that the court has ordered the police PBI to investigate the case.
When asked about the allegations, SI Mithun Sarkar said, “The allegations are all false.” There was no relationship with him. I don’t know why they filed a case against me.
Bogra Additional Superintendent of Police Abdur Rashid said, investigation has been started in this matter. Action will be taken against him soon.
