Govt in power illegally and unconstitutionally: Fakhrul
Dhaka/
Calling the Awami League government fascist, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, ‘The illegal government has swallowed everything. They control the media. Our democratic minimum rights have also been taken away. Those who are in power today, they are in power by force, they are in power illegally and unconstitutionally.
He said these things in a seminar at Hotel Lake Shore in Gulshan of the capital on Monday afternoon. The seminar was organized under the title of ‘Bangladesh news media and one and a half decade of misrule’.
The Secretary General of BNP said that the current government has amended the constitution to stay in power forever. Police, administration, media are all controlling. They have turned the entire society of the country into a ruined society. The desire of our liberation war was not realized.
He said, there is no freedom of media in Bangladesh. Corporate media is created. Big companies own TV channels or newspapers. They are all associated with fascism. But no one speaks against money laundering. In fact, free media is not possible without democracy.
Mirza Fakhrul also said, “Our leader Khaleda Zia has been sentenced and imprisoned in a false case while restoring democracy.” More than 600 leaders and activists are missing, thousands of leaders and activists have been killed. Lakhs of false cases have been filed against 40 lakh activists. So, to get rid of this situation, people from all walks of life must unite. There is no alternative to building a strong movement against fascism.
BNP Secretary General said, today not only the people of the country but also foreigners are saying that there is no democracy in Bangladesh. As in the past we brought down the dictatorial Ershad government and restored democracy, we must once again force this government to go through a peaceful movement. After that, a responsible government should be established by the people’s vote.
Under the chairmanship of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and organized secretary Shama Obaid, BNP Chairperson’s advisor Ismail Zabiullah presented the keynote at the seminar. Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, said.
