Staff Reporter, Gaibandha/
In protest of the beating of 5 journalists while gathering news in Gobindganj, Gaibandha, journalists observed a pen break and blocked the Dhaka-Rangpur highway on Sunday.
On July 3, Sholagari Alim went from Gobindganj to collect news about corruption and irregularities in the madrasa. Meanwhile, Madrasah Superintendent Minhaj Uddin and his people got angry and beat up the journalists. Journalists Shaheen Alam, Abu Tarek, Moshiur Rahman Babu, Farhad Hossain and Zobayedur Rahman were injured. They were treated in different hospitals. The next day, on July 4, a case was filed at Gobindganj police station. But the police arrested only 1 accused but are indifferent about arresting others. In view of this, the Gobindganj Journalist Society held a pen break at Chowrasta junction and blocked the Dhaka-Rangpur highway. Brave freedom fighter Jibu Roy, Journalist Deputy Chief, Ujjal Haque Chief, Rockiful Islam Rafiq, Mahmud Khan, Zillur Rahman, Moazzem Hossain, Sajedur Rahman Saju and others spoke on the occasion. The speakers said that the police are not arresting the accused even though the case has passed for a long time. We demand the immediate arrest and punishment of the accused while traffic on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway was stopped.
