India has reiterated that it wants elections to be held peacefully in Bangladesh on time. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said this in response to a question about the election situation in Bangladesh at the weekly briefing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.

In the briefing, several questions were asked about the continuous agitation of the opposition party BNP around the national election of Bangladesh, the demand for the formation of a caretaker government during the election and the possibility of third party interference in the election.

In response, Arindam Bagchi said that a few days ago, he informed the Indian government’s attitude in response to this question. That attitude remains unchanged. He said that it is not appropriate to comment on what is going on inside Bangladesh.

The spokesperson made it clear that whether a caretaker government will be formed or not is clearly stated in the constitution of that country. So it is not appropriate to say anything about it.

Arindam Bagchi also said that it is not appropriate to comment on anything hypothetical like the possibility of third party intervention. He doesn’t want to. India wants elections to be held peacefully and on time.

A recent sub-editorial article in an all-India daily said that the possibility of third-party intervention may arise amid electoral complications in Bangladesh.
