Golapganj Model police station arrested 3 members of thieves gang including Chhatra League leader while selling stolen cows in Golapganj. They were arrested in front of the Ghoshgaon madrasa of Ghoshgaon village in the upazila’s municipal area on Thursday morning.

The arrested are- Abdul Qadir (35) son of deceased Tera Mia of Mirpur village of Lakshipasa union of the upazila, Manowar Hossain (42) son of Yusuf Ali of Dakshin Bagha village of Bagha union and Munna Ahmad (30) son of deceased Mubarak Ali of Bagha Rostampur village of the same union.

Munna Ahmad Golapganj Upazila Chhatra League vice-president is among those arrested.

In this incident, SI Partha Sarthi Das of Golapganj Model Police Station filed a case (Case No-8/190, Date-10-08-2023) as the plaintiff.

According to police sources, on the basis of a tip-off around 4 am on Thursday, the police came to know that a gang of thieves was bringing a stolen cow in a pickup truck to Ghoshgaon village for sale. Immediately, a team of police led by SI Partha Sarthi Das of Golapganj Model Police Station conducted a raid in Ghoshgaon village of Golapganj municipal area. When they sensed the presence of the police, while they were fleeing, members of the thief gang, Abdul Qadir, Manowar Hossain and Munna Ahmad, were arrested along with a red colored cow from in front of the Ghoshgaon Madrasa. When the accused were arrested and interrogated, they admitted that they had stolen the cow from Shahparan (Rh.) police station and were taking it for sale. Meanwhile, the police also seized a pickup used for transportation.

The police also found out during the interrogation that they were stealing cows from different villages of the upazila and selling them to different traders in Sylhet.

When asked about the arrest of Upazila Chhatra League vice-president Munna Ahmad while selling stolen cows, Golapganj Upazila Chhatra League president Tajul Islam said, “We have informed the Sylhet district Chhatra League after hearing about the matter. We will take measures according to the organizational measures they ask to be taken after seeing the matter.
