District administration’s ‘tough message’ to control dengue in Sylhet

The number of dengue patients is increasing day by day in Sylhet. No one has died of dengue in this region so far, but more than 600 dengue patients have been identified in Sylhet division since the beginning of this year. In this situation, the district administration has given a ‘stern message’ to control dengue.
Next Sunday (August 13) across Sylhet, all public and private organizations have been ordered to conduct a clean-up campaign on their own initiative and to conduct an awareness campaign in this regard in every mosque.
This instruction was given in the disease prevention coordination committee meeting held at the conference room of the Sylhet District Administrator’s office on Thursday (August 10).
The meeting was held at 11 am under the chairmanship of Sylhet District Commissioner Sheikh Russell Hasan.
According to Sylhet district administration sources, the coordination committee meeting for prevention of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases was held at the district level to decide what to do to deal with the current dengue situation. In the meeting, instructions were given to all upazilas, municipalities and unions of the district to take effective measures to prevent dengue as per government guidelines.
According to the decision of the meeting, next Sunday morning in Sylhet City Corporation, Sylhet District, all upazilas, municipalities and unions, all offices, educational institutions, NGOs, banks and insurance companies, shopping malls and homes should be cleaned.
In addition, for the next 1 month, instructions were given to spread warnings about dengue prevention in mosques before Zohr and Isha azaan and during Friday prayers.
Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Russel Hasan requested everyone’s cooperation in dealing with the dengue situation and emphasized on conducting cleanliness drive, publicity and increasing public awareness.
The meeting was conducted by Deputy Director (Acting) of Local Government Sylhet Division Mohammad Mobarak Hossain.
Representatives of District Civil Surgeon and Superintendent of Police, Executive Committee of LGED, Health Officer of Sylhet City Corporation, Municipal Mayor, Hero Freedom Fighters, President of Sylhet Chamber, President of CAB Sylhet, representatives of religious institutions, representatives of District Ansar Commandant, BNCC- Representatives of Scouts and Girls Guides, representatives of various NGO organizations and officials of various departments of the district were present.
