Youth sentenced to death in wife murder case in Sylhet

The court sentenced a young man to death for killing his wife in Sylhet. He was also fined 10 thousand rupees.
Sylhet Senior Sessions Judge Moshiur Rahman announced the verdict on Sunday (August 6).
The name of the youth sentenced to death is Siddique Ahmad (35). He is the son of deceased Mansab Ali of Sheola Adarshagram (Deunagar) of Biyanibazar Upazila of Sylhet. Court PP Nizam Uddin confirmed this information.
According to court sources, Siddique Ahmad stabbed his wife Alima Begum at her in-laws’ house in Birkuli village of Towakul Union of Goainghat Upazila at around 1 pm on May 13, 2021 due to a family dispute. When her mother-in-law Phultera Begum came forward, Siddique stabbed her too. Alima died on the spot. In this incident Alima’s father Nizam Uddin filed a case at the police station as a plaintiff.
After the investigation, on July 29, 2021, Deputy Inspector Khaled Miah of Goainghat Police Station submitted a charge sheet to the court, making Siddique Ahmed the only accused. A charge sheet was framed against the accused on 8 June 2022. After hearing the testimony of 15 of the 21 witnesses in the case, the judge announced the verdict.
