4 journalists beaten in Gobindganj

Four journalists were beaten up while performing their professional duties in Gobindganj, Gaibandha on Thursday (August 3) afternoon. 4 journalists injured in this incident at Sholagari Alim Madrasa of Shipur Union of Upazila are being treated at Upazila Health Complex.

They are – Moshiur Rahman Babu (MyTV), Shaheen Alam (All News), Farhad Hossain Fitul (Nabraj), (Today’s People) and Abu Tarek (Voice of Time).
Injured journalist Shahin Alam said that Ripon, the night watchman of Sholagari Dakhil Madrasa in Shibpur Union of Upazila, is also getting salary from the jail. In view of this complaint, the madrasa was visited. Madrasah Superintendent Minhaj Uddin asked about this and he got angry. At one point, the imprisoned night guard Ripon’s father and other teachers were beaten up by him. Dr. Md. Hedayetul Islam, a doctor on duty at the Upazila Health Complex, said that among the injured journalists, Abu Tarek was referred to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College in critical condition.
SI Praloy Kumar Verma of Gobindganj Police Station said that injured journalists were rescued from the scene and admitted to Gobindganj Upazila Health Complex. The accused was not found at that time.

When contacted to talk about this matter, the mobile phone used by Madrasah Superintendent Minhaj Uddin was found switched off. Shamsul Alam Shah, OC of Gobindganj police station said, if a complaint is received in this regard, necessary action will be taken. Upazila Parishad Chairman Abdul Latif Pradhan, Upazila Awami League President, Upazila Resident Officer Arif Hossain, Thana Officer-in-Charge Shamsul Alam Shah, Police Inspector Investigation Bulbul Islam and others visited the health complex to see the injured journalists.
