Bail granted to 32 people including 24 students of BUET arrested in Tangua Haor

The court has granted bail to 32 of the 34 people arrested including 24 students of Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) from Tanguar Haor in Sunamganj. The judge granted bail when they applied for bail in Sunamganj Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Farhan Sadiq’s court on August 2.
The bail of 32 people has been confirmed by Sunamganj District Lawyers Association President Md. Taibur Rahman. As the other two are children, their bail applications have been sent to the Children’s Court. At two o’clock in the afternoon, lawyer Taibur Rahman said that the bail hearing of these two has not yet taken place.
The bailees are – BUET students Afif Anwar, Bakhtiar Nafis, Md. Sheikh Sadiq, Ismail Ibn Azad, Sabbir Ahmed, Tajimur Rafi, Md. Saad Adnan, Md. Shamim Al Razi, Md. Abdullah Al Mukit, Md. Zaim Sarkar, Haicham bin Mahbub, Mahmudur Hasan, Khalid Ammar, Md. Fahadul Islam, Tanvir Arafat, ATM Abrar Muhtadi, Md. Faisal Habib, Anwarul Siddiqui, Ali Ammar Mouaz, Md. Rashed Raihan, Saqib Shahriar, Faiz Us Swaib, Abdur Rafi and Main Uddin. Others are, Abdul Bari, Md. Baki Billah, Mahadi Hasan, TM Tanvir Hossain, Ashraf Ali, Md. Mahmud Hasan, Md. Ehsanul Haque and Md. Abdullah Mia.
34 people were arrested from Tangua Haor last Sunday afternoon for ‘secret conspiracy and threat of disturbing public security’ against the government. Later on Monday afternoon, the police filed a case against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Tahirpur Police Station. Arrested in this case, when they appeared in court in the afternoon, the judge ordered 32 people to be sent to jail and two juveniles to be sent to the juvenile correctional facility. The police claim that all those arrested are leaders and workers of the Islamic Student Camp.
According to police, 24 of the 34 arrested are current students of BUET. Among them, six are in first year, six are in second year, five are in third year, five are in fourth year and two are in post graduation. Seven of the remaining 10 are recent BUET alumni. Among the other three, two have now passed SSC, one of them works in the home of a BUET student.
