In Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur. The reservoirs are dying due to lack of sufficient water. Farmers’ dreams are being burnt to ashes due to heavy fire and drought. At this time, the rivers, canals, ponds and reservoirs are supposed to be filled with water, but these reservoirs are now empty of water.
Farmers say that jute cutting season is going on but many farmers are unable to cut jute due to lack of water. Again, many people cut jute by installing a machine and add water to the pond to wake the jute. Farmers have to bear additional costs due to this. In this situation, the farmers are in great trouble. Due to lack of sufficient rain, farmers are frustrated. Even if there is little water in the reservoirs in some areas, it is not enough to decompose the jute. If there is no heavy rain soon, the farmers feel that golden fiber jute will cut the throat of the farmers.
According to Rangpur District Agricultural Extension Directorate, jute cultivation has been done in Rangpur district this time, jute cultivation has been done on 1 thousand 500 hectares of land which is more than last time. Aman cultivation period is from 20th July to 15th August. Now there is a chance of rain even though it is hot and dry.
In some areas of Mithapukur upazila, it can be seen that many farmers have cut jute from their land and kept it in danga. Others are putting jute in front of the water bodies by adding jute vans or necks by farmers.
Farmer Ekramul Haque said that he has grown jute on about 55 percent of his land. Jute is doing pretty well, but she has no end of worries about where to wake her up. Still hoping that if it rains, he will be able to wake up in his own land. It will reduce the cost to a great extent.
Farmer Rafiqul Islam said that every time we cut jute on the land in Hamra Bah, there is no water. So Ela also did not cut the jute tree. Let’s see what God does.
Farmer Motiar Rahman said, cutting my jute tree has become necessary. Some jute trees are drying up. Looking for a place, if there is no rain, then jute should be raised by irrigation.
Mithapukur Upazila Agriculture Officer Saiful Abedin said that jute bumper cultivation has been done in this upazila. There is a possibility of rain due to lack of water. There is time to cut the jute which has not been cut yet. There is a chance of rain. If it rains in between, there should be no problem. Hopefully the farmers will be able to raise jute on time. And Aman cultivation will not be affected.
