The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has suspended two officers of the rank of Assistant Director and Deputy Assistant Director on charges of bribery and corruption.
This information is known from the order signed by ACC Chairman Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah on Thursday.
The suspended officers are Assistant Director Mostafizur Rahman and Deputy Assistant Director Sudip Kumar Chowdhury. On July 12, the two officers were withdrawn from their workplaces and attached to the ACC head office.
It is said in the temporary dismissal order, while working as an assistant director in Pabna, Md. Assistant director Mostafizur Rahman demanded Tk 20 lakh from a person named Samchul Haque. Later he accepted 76 thousand rupees. On June 26, a video footage related to this was aired in the form of news in various media including two private televisions of the country.
It can be seen in the circulated video footage, the owner of Messrs. Haque Tile Limited. Mostafizur Rahman is accepting bribe from Shamsul Haque. The concerned parties were requested to take action in this regard on June 28.
Mostafizur Rahman took bribe and acted against the job discipline. ACC’s image has been severely tarnished in view of such allegations. Accordingly, a departmental case (No. 08/2-23) was filed against him under Rule 39(b) and 39(e) of the ACC (Employee) Employment Rules, 2008 for misconduct and abuse of power respectively and Rule 43(1) of the said Rules. Accordingly, the commission found it reasonable and necessary to temporarily suspend him from service.
On the other hand, Sudip Kumar Chowdhury’s dismissal order states that while he was working as Deputy Assistant Director in Bogra, he verified the assets of Alamgir Hossain, Sub-Inspector of Intelligence Department in District Police. At that time, Sudeep Kumar assured him to be released from the case. Then he demanded bribe from Alamgir Hossain. Besides, ACC’s forensic lab experts examined the audio recording of the bribe-taking conversation and said it belonged to Sudeep Kumar. As a result, the accused has been found to have violated the instructions of the ACC not to contact concerned persons or witnesses on telephone/mobile.
For that reason a departmental case was filed against him under Rule 39(b), 39(e) and 39(f) of the ACC (Employee) Employment Rules, 2008 on charges of misconduct, abuse of power and corruption respectively, and he was dismissed as per Rule 43(1) of the Rules. ACC temporarily suspended from.
