The International Criminal Tribunal has ordered the execution of four Razakars including Abdul Mannan Howladar of Bhandari, Pirojpur. Justice Md. Shahinul Islam’s bench finished reading the significant portion of the 228-page verdict at 11:30 on Thursday.

Prosecutor of the tribunal Saidur Rahman confirmed this information to Samakal. He said that as four charges against the accused have been proved beyond doubt, they have been awarded the maximum penalty of death.

He also said that three accused were present during the verdict. An arrest warrant has been issued against the other one as he is absent.

The prosecutor said that 13 witnesses have given for the prosecution in this case. Lawyer Gazi MH Tamim was for the accused.

The other three accused in this case of crimes against humanity during the liberation war in 1971 are Ashraf Ali Howlader, Maharaj Howlader and the fugitive Nurul Amin Howlader. They have been accused of killing 18 people, rape, torture, arson and other crimes against humanity in Bhandaria’s local Pasharibunia village during the liberation war. On May 18, the case was kept pending judgment (CAV) after presentation of arguments by both sides.

According to the prosecution sources, on September 11, 2019, the tribunal first framed charges against seven people. Three later died at different times (one in prison and two on the run). The investigation against them started on April 12, 2016 and ended on November 6, 2018.
