Bangladesh seeks funding for loss and damage – Environment Minister

Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin said Bangladesh earnestly seeks UAEs support in securing funding for loss and damage, particularly for the LDCs. It is important to note that the source of funding for addressing loss and damage has not yet been decided, and it is crucial that this matter be finalized at COP28 including the decision to fully operationalization of the fund. The Environment Minister said this in the meeting with Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology. UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change, and President Designate for the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) held on Thursday in the Hotel Intercontinental Dhaka. Environment minister said Bangladesh also wants support of UAE in funding for the implementation of National Adaptation Plans (NAP) in climate-vulnerable developing countries. These plans serve as critical roadmaps to adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change, build climate resilience, and protect vulnerable sectors and communities. It is time to take decision to allocate dedicated resources for NAP implementation during COP 28 negotiation process item. Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, State Minister for Power, Energy and Natural Resources Nasrul Hamid, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and climate change Habibun Nahar, Special envoy of Prime Minister for environment and climate change and Chairman of Standing Committee for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change Dr Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik were present among others.
