1 killed, 2 injured in firing by Indians while fetching stones at Jaintapur border

A Barki worker died after being shot while fetching stones in Lalakhal Indian border area of Sylhet’s Jaintapur Upazila. Besides, two more workers were injured. However, no one could confirm that they were in this condition due to firing by BSF or Khasias.
This incident took place in the Kalinji area of international pillar number 1301 of the Lalakhal border of the upazila at around 7:30 am on Thursday (July 20).
The deceased worker is Rubel Ahmad (22), son of the deceased Ismail Ali of Kalinji village in the upazila. The injured are Abbas Mia (25) and Mizan Mia (22) son of Mohammad Ali of the same village.
According to the police and local sources, around 7:30 am on Thursday morning, when Lalakhal entered the Kalinji area of international pillar number 1301 while bringing stones to the border area, firing started from the Indian side. Two people including Rubel Ahmed were injured. Later the police rescued them and sent them to Jaintapur Upazila Health Complex. Later, Rubel Ahmad died at around 11 pm while undergoing treatment.
In this regard, the officer in charge of Jaintapur Model Police Station said that one person was shot dead in the border area. But it is not certain who was shot dead. Details will be given after legal process.
