The court ordered six years of imprisonment without labor for Feroz Kabir, the former inspector of Barisal district (former sub-inspector of Gulshan zone of the capital) in a corruption case. At the same time, the court sentenced his wife Sabrina Ahmed to four years’ imprisonment.

Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 announced the verdict in the presence of the accused on Wednesday. After announcing the verdict, he ordered the two accused who were on bail to be sent to jail with warrants.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court also ordered a fine of one crore 74 lakh 34 thousand 638 taka to Feroz Kabir. At the same time 87 lakh 17 thousand 194 taka has been confiscated in favor of the state.

According to the complaint in the case, Feroze Kabir’s current accounts of AB Bank Gulshan Branch, Dutch-Bangla Bank, Gulshan Branch, NRB Commercial Bank Gulshan Branch, Islami Bank, Gulshan Branch, BRAC Bank, Gulshan Branch from January 1, 2012 to May 31, 2016. and his wife Sabrina Ahmed deposited a total of Tk 309.97 lakhs in non-disclosed amount as Gulshan branch of Dutch-Bangla Bank managed in the name of Ivar.

Their bank accounts have been filled with large amounts of transactions disproportionate to their profession. Firoz Kabir’s source of money has shown employment while opening most of the accounts. But the type and amount of transactions are not in accordance with the salary. The accused have failed to adduce any satisfactory explanation or evidence as to the source of the money. It is prima facie proved that the money deposited is a crime related to corruption and bribery under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

ACC Assistant Director Syed Ataul Kabir filed a case at Gulshan Police Station on October 3, 2017. He filed the charge sheet on March 10, 2019 after investigating the case.
