Another prominent businessman Haji Md. Haji Makhan Mia held a press conference at Srimangal Press Club accusing him of smuggling sand from Makhan Mia’s leased sand palace.

Monday (July 10) at 11 a.m. in the press conference organized by Haji Makhan Mia Katrik of Srimangal Press Club, Haji Md. Makhan Mia said in a written statement, in the meeting regarding silica sand quarry lease held at Moulvibazar District Commissioner’s office on May 24, 2021, Langliachhra, Putiachhra and Phulchhra sand quarry lease was awarded in my name as the highest bidder. After obtaining the lease, 25% of the total price is deposited with the government revenue and approval is given subject to payment of the remaining amount for sand mining through other processes including clearance from the Department of Environment as per rules. I have already applied for other documents including environmental clearance, which is under process. Then after paying the remaining 75% according to government rules, we will get permission to extract sand.
He also said in a written statement that on the afternoon of July 8, 2023, someone from Saitula village of Sindurkhan Union of Srimangal Upazila. Monir Mia told me that the resident of Jalalia road in Srimangal town almost every day from my leased Putiyachhara. Yusuf Ali has been hauling sand and smuggling it to other places at night or early morning. As soon as I got the news, I reported the incident to my silica sand quarry manager. Last July 19, 2023 around 6:30 PM. Phul Mia Mahaldar visited Saitula village on his way back to Srimangal town from his own orchard. He went there and found Yusuf Ali’s relatives Jalal, Kamal, Harun, Salam, Alal, Sajid, Masuk, Jewel, Sajib, Moshahid, Sohail and other workers preparing to extract sand from Putiachhara. In this situation, when Phul Mia Mahaldar stopped them, the said persons attacked Phul Mia Mahaldar’s car and started beating him. When Shahid Mia and Monir Mia of the area came forward to protect him, the said persons also attacked them and vandalized the motorcycles of both. Shahid Mia was treated at Srimangal Upazila Health Complex. Injured, Phul Mia Mahaldar rushed towards the city to defend himself.
Haji Makhan Mia also said in his written statement, you must be aware that Md. Yusuf Ali has been illegally extracting and selling sand for 8/10 years by creating a syndicate with his own people and cheating the government revenue. Now he continues to extract sand by force in the dark of night even from legally leased plots.
My business manager Md. was attacked by Yusuf Ali’s people while stopping illegal sand extraction. Phul Mia Mahaldar and two others. Despite all this, some people are running various misinformation on social media to divert the issue. Haji Md. Makhan Mia also said in a written statement that after this incident we filed a written complaint at Srimangal police station. Till now we are being threatened. I am requesting the concerned authorities to protect my life and property. When contacted about this, Yusuf Ali said, “They themselves have been extracting sand without permission without depositing the lease revenue of 64 lakh rupees to the sector”. He said, “I have given a written complaint against these irregularities to the Ministry of Mineral Resources and the Deputy Commissioner, and they are angry about it and are spreading false propaganda against me. For this reason, he said to file a defamation case against them. Local people including Phul Mia Mahaldar were present in the press conference.
