Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said, due to rapid development, we have become an eyesore for many. He also commented that human rights, democracy, disappearances are all hypocrisy.

The foreign minister said these things while participating in the DCAB talk at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Saturday.

He said, people get lost in different countries and come back again. They say extrajudicial killings happen in our country. But they don’t see their own face in the mirror.

Dr. Momen said, we have democracy and human rights in our mouth. In no other country in the world have so many people given their lives for democracy and human rights. Foreigners should know this.

He also said that foreign ambassadors come to the country to improve the relations between the two countries. But sometimes they say things that amount to meddling in internal politics.

Abdul Momen said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has made me an MP and a minister.” I used to be an ambassador. But in no country did I question their internal issues. These are not the tasks of foreign ambassadors in Bangladesh.

Stating that the government has taken many steps for fair elections, the foreign minister said that even if two political parties do not come, most of the parties come to the elections. We have taken many steps for fair elections. The government is committed to fair elections. Foreigners should look out for themselves. Terrorist groups can’t vote in America. We can have terrorist groups in our country, it doesn’t matter if they don’t.

Stating that all the elections have been transparent in the last few years, except for one, the minister said, “We will have transparent elections in the future as well.” But for a transparent election, all parties must have the will and commitment. Bangladesh is ahead of developed countries in terms of public participation in elections. 26-30 percent people vote in USA, European countries. 70% people vote in our country.

The foreign minister said that there was no benefit from dialogue in the past. But if there is a good proposal, it can be discussed. Bangladesh is committed to free and fair elections. There can certainly be a discussion about this among the people within the country.
