Tourist student missing after drowning in Jaflong

A tourist named Arsh Ahmed (15) has gone missing after drowning in Jaflong, Gowainghat, Sylhet.
He went missing after taking a bath in the zero point area of Dawki river in Jaflong on Thursday afternoon.
The missing Arsh is a Class IX student of Residential Model College in the capital. He is the son of Jahedul Hossain, Inspector of Police (working in Brahmanbaria) of Shidlai village of Brahmanpara upazila of Comilla district.
Before this, a tourist named Abdus Salam of Dhaka went missing from Sada Pathar tourist center in Companyganj last Saturday (July 1). His body was recovered two days later.
According to police and local sources, Arash came to Jaflong from Dhaka with his parents and younger brother on Thursday morning. In the afternoon, Arash and his father Jahedul Hossain went down to bathe in the river at Zero Point area of Jaflong. At one point, seeing the father and son drowning in the current, the locals went to rescue the father and son. At one point, the father was able to be rescued, but the son Arash drowned in the water.
Bachir Ali, a local boatman, said that when Arsh and his father went down in the water to bathe, he rescued his father. Arash was not found. On receiving the information, local tourist police as well as policemen of the police station went to the spot and carried out rescue operations. At the time of writing this report, Arsh was not found till 8 pm.
Jaflong tourist police in-charge (OC) confirmed the truth of the incident. Ratan Sheikh said that the operation is being conducted in coordination with the police and BGB. The search will continue until the missing tourist is found.
