BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that there is no dialogue with them except the resignation of the government and the announcement of the caretaker government.
He said, “We do not want to go to dialogue in any format. An impartial supervisor says and whatever he says, the election will be held under a non-partisan government – the government should be the first to announce it. You have to resign. Apart from this, no question of dialogue will arise.
Fakhrul said these things when asked to respond to the statement made by Prime Minister’s Advisor on Industries and Investments Salman F. Rahman that ‘there will actually be dialogue in BNP elections’ at a press conference after a meeting with the 12-party alliance at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan in the capital on Thursday afternoon.
In response to the Prime Minister’s statement on the election, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Can’t he (the Prime Minister) resign for the election?” Then everyone is happy. Let there be an impartial election, let him resign. We will welcome the election of Awami League under a neutral government. But it is not right to elect from power and say that I will accept all sacrifices.
He said, ‘The upcoming elections are very important for the nation. The existence of the nation will depend on this election. Independence of the nation will depend on this election or not. This election will depend on whether the nation can create a welfare state or not. That’s why I say clearly, this election must be under a neutral government. This government must resign.
BNP Secretary General said, ‘They (Awami League) repeatedly talk about the Constitution. The constitution they have cut and brought to a place where there is no scope for election under it. There are big examples in this country, decisions have been made two or three times in this country based on the opinion of all the parties, we have gone to the elections and the government has been formed. He (Prime Minister) wants to make so much sacrifice, then accept that sacrifice and take action.
Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘We 36 political parties have been agitating together for several years. Our movement has already reached a final stage. This year is very important for us. Because this year, Awami League is moving towards Patano elections. People of this country will never accept that election. I want to make it clear that the people will not accept any election under the leadership of this illegal government and the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. There should be a non-partisan caretaker government during the election period. Before that, this government has to resign, parliament has to be dissolved.
On behalf of the 12-party alliance, Bangladesh Welfare Party Chairman Major General (Retd.) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim said, “I have decided to start the movement with one point of demand. The only demand is the resignation of Sheikh Hasina.
This meeting of BNP was held with the Liaison Committee of 12 party alliance. The meeting discussed the final phase program of the ongoing movement.
