Meeting of UN Assistant Secretary General and Environment Minister held

UN Assistant Secretary- General (ASG) and Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction in United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Mami Mizutori said that Bangladesh is one of the 30 focused countries announced by the United Nations Secretary-General. Bangladesh will be assisted on a priority basis to deal with the negative effects of climate change and natural disasters. This assistance will be provided to prepare, monitor, communicate and provide early warning systems for various types of disasters after identifying the need and promote green technology.
Mentioning that Bangladesh has made appreciable progress in various social indicators, she said, the world has a lot to learn from Bangladesh. Mami Mizutori, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, said these things in a bilateral meeting held with Minister Md. Shahab Uddin in the meeting room of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change at the Secretariat on Tuesday. In the meeting, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md. Shahab Uddin said that Bangladesh government is committed to save people’s lives and livelihood from the effects of climate change. Delta Plan 2100, National Adaptation Plan and Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan are being implemented in this regard.
