Waste of government money in Atpara

10 km rural road from Abhaypasha of Atpara in Netrakona to Duoj Union Parishad. Thousands of people travel through that road every day. Erosion occurred on the banks of Magra river near Charia, Mahishpur village of Baniajan union of Sadar upazila. The local residents have been demanding for a long time to prevent river erosion. Netrakona Water Development Board undertakes project to prevent erosion of Magra river. Earth is filled in sacks on an urgent basis. Before the work is finished, the bag of soil is falling into the river in a light rain. According to Netrakona Water Development Board office sources, about 600 meters of Magra river banks have been eroded. About one and a half crore taka are allocated. The upazila administration, water development board and representatives of the local MP are involved in the repair work. Work is done on an urgent basis with that money. A bag of soil is thrown.
Netrokona 3 former MP Manjur Quader Koraishi said, ‘I heard that emergency repair work has been done to prevent the bank of Magra river from eroding. As the quality of the work is not good, the bags used for the renovation work will be given immediately after the repair. It has been wasted by the government. It did not help the local residents.’ Netrakona Water Development Board Executive Engineer Sarwar Jahan said, ‘The allocation to prevent river bank erosion is very less. About one and a half crore rupees are allotted. At least 6 crore rupees are needed to prevent river erosion if done well. The project work has been done on urgent basis. Contact the MP’s representative.’
