Independent Television journalist Jozif Hossain alias Prateik (31) was attacked for protesting the beating of a motorcyclist in Bogra.

The attack took place in Thanthania Paschimpara area of Bogra city around 1.30 pm on Tuesday. Jozif Hossain is the correspondent of Bogra bureau office of the television channel. He was admitted to Mohammad Ali Hospital in Bogra.

Jozif Hossain, who was injured in the attack, alleged that after the beating, the assailants stole his motorcycle and mobile phone. Later, when the journalist identified them, they were returned.

Bogra Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Noore Alam Siddiqui said that the attackers were being identified by collecting the CCTV footage of the area immediately after the incident. Two have already been identified. They are employees of a shop in Thanthania area. The identity of the others is yet to be confirmed. The number of assailants could not be ascertained. After identifying them, they will be brought under the law.

Jozif Hossain, the victim of the attack, said that his wife is admitted to a clinic in Khandar area of the city. That’s why he was going to the clinic on his motorcycle at around 1:30 PM today. While going, Thanthania found in Paschimpara area, some people were blocking the road and beating a motorcyclist. He asked the reason for beating those people. Enraged by this, the men also attacked him and took off his helmet and started beating him. At one stage took away his motorcycle keys and mobile phone. They were later returned after introducing the journalist.

Jozif Hossain also said, “The attackers were seven-eight in number. One of them is a well-known terrorist in the area and accused in a murder case. Later the police came and rescued me and sent me to the hospital. Now I am preparing to file a case against the attackers at the police station.

Citing eyewitnesses, Sadar Police Station OC Noore Alam Siddiqui told the media that an argument broke out between a rickshaw driver and an unidentified motorcyclist on that road in Thanthaniya Paschimpara. The passenger of that rickshaw was a woman from Thanthania area. At one stage of the argument, the woman passenger got into an argument with the motorcyclist on behalf of the rickshaw puller. At that time, the motorcyclist made “offensive” comments about the woman. When the woman called her husband, brother-in-law and shop employees, they came and attacked the motorcyclist. Journalist Jozif Hossain was passing that way at that time. He also got into an argument with the motorcyclist when he asked the reason for the beating. At one point, two of them beat Joseph.
