The water level of rivers and streams is increasing in Habiganj due to the continuous rains of the last few days and the mountain streams coming down from the upstream. Till 6 pm on Sunday, all the rivers including Khoai, Kalni, Kushiara and Dhaleswari are nearing their limit. However, at no point in the rivers did the water cross the boundary line. However, the speed of water increases only when it rains.

It is known that people are going to safe shelter in Asampara, Chunarughat area due to the fear of breaking the Khoai river dam.

However, the Habiganj Water Development Board says that if the rainfall continues like this, it will quickly cross the dangerous limit. Meanwhile, due to the sudden rise of water in the last two-three days of rain, there is panic among the people along the river.

Habiganj Water Development Board Executive Engineer Shamim Hasnain Mahmud said that water is flowing below 21.09 meters at Balla Point of Khoai River, 9.02 at Shaistaganj Point and 7 cm at Machulia Point. Besides, 9.92 cm is flowing at Sherpur point, 5.52 at Markuli point and 4.58 cm at Ajmiriganj point of Kushiara river.

Citing the Meteorological Office, this official of the Water Development Board said that the rainfall in Habiganj has been recorded as 41 millimeters till Sunday afternoon, which was 128 millimeters on Saturday. He also said that heavy rainfall will continue for the next 48 hours. In the city, it can be seen that flooding has occurred in various areas including Shaistanagar, Mohanpur, Machulia, Anantapur, North Shyamoli, Inatabad.
