Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said BNP leaders wake up in the morning and go to the US embassy (in Dhaka) to lodge complaints against the government and the country. “BNP leaders wake up in the morning and go to the US embassy to complain,” he told reporters after speaking at a branding seminar on the launch of MRT Line Six of Metrorail from Agargaon to Motijheel at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital. Quader, the road transport and bridges minister, said after failing to talk to the United Nations Secretary General, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir returned home having talks the third-tier officials of the body. “The ruling Awami League went to the US embassy after being invited. We do not do the politics of complaining against the country,” he said. About the next general elections, Quader said many BNP leaders are preparing secretly for the elections and many parties are ready to participate in the polls. “They are living in a fool’s paradise if they think that others will not participate in the polls if BNP boycotts it,” he said. Responding to a question, the AL general secretary said the national elections are not far away and in the recent city elections, about 50 percent votes were cast in Gazipur, while 40 to 45 percent in Barishal and Khulna. “So, how do you say voter turnout was less? In many developed countries of the world, votes are cast even below 30 percent,” he said. Replying to another query, Quader said: “We are not looking at anyone. We are looking at the people of Bangladesh. External powers can be friends but cannot make you win in elections”.
