A case has been filed at Bakshiganj police station with Sadhurpara Union Parishad (UP) chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu as the main accused for his involvement in the murder of journalist Golam Rabbani Nadeem in Jamalpur’s Bakshiganj.

Journalist Nadeem’s wife Monira Begum filed this case as the plaintiff on Saturday.

Apart from Chairman Babu, 22 people including his son Fahim Faisal Rifat have been named as defendants in the case. Besides, 20 to 25 unidentified people have been accused in this case.

Bakshiganj police station officer-in-charge (OC) Sohel Rana confirmed the case.

Earlier on Saturday morning, RAB arrested Chairman Babu from Chilahati Union of Debiganj Upazila of Panchagarh.

In this regard, RAB’s Law and Media Branch Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin told the media that Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu was arrested from Panchagarh on Saturday morning. He is being brought to Dhaka.

It is known that Nadeem, a journalist of BanglaNews and Ekatar TV, published news one after another about the misdeeds of Babu, the chairman of Sadhurpara Union of Bakshiganj Upazila and the general secretary of Union Awami League, including the women scandal. Babu also filed a case against Nadeem in the Mymensingh Cyber Crime Tribunal for publishing the news. The court dismissed the case. Within hours of this, on Wednesday (June 14) night, Babu’s forces launched a brutal attack on him. Chairman Babu and his son Fahim Faisal Rifat led the attack. Nadeem, a 40-year-old father of three, died while undergoing treatment on Thursday.

Later on Friday, journalist Nadeem was bid farewell with mourning and respect. After the first janaza at Bakshiganj Noor Mohammad High School ground at 10 am and the second janaza at Nilaksia Eidgaon ground at 12 noon, he was buried next to the grave of his grandparents in the family cemetery.
