Four more people have died due to dengue fever in the country. Three of them are residents of the capital Dhaka. With this, the number of deaths due to dengue this year stood at 33. And 20 people died this June.
The Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Department of Health said this in a press release on Saturday afternoon.
According to the notification, four people died of dengue fever from 8:00 am to 8:00 am today. During this period, 477 new patients were admitted to different hospitals of the country with dengue fever.
A total of 3,432 dengue patients were admitted to the hospital this year. Out of this, 77 percent patients are from Dhaka city, the remaining 23 percent are from the rest of the country including different upazilas of Dhaka district. However, this calculation does not include information on dengue victims in Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar. According to official commentary, more than 1,000 Rohingyas have been affected by dengue this year.
The Department of Health recently said that this year most of the dengue patients are dying of ‘shock syndrome’. Dengue ‘shock syndrome’ means that the blood pressure of a dengue patient drops very quickly, the amount of platelets in the blood decreases and the patient’s condition deteriorates rapidly, the patient becomes unconscious.
281 people died due to dengue in the country last year. This is the highest number of dengue deaths in a single year in the country. Apart from this, 179 people died in 2019.
