BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi commented that the countrymen are living in a suffocating situation.

He made this comment at a memorial meeting at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Saturday afternoon.

A plainclothes police officer took a photo of Dias during the memorial service. Criticizing this incident, Rizvi said, one of those sitting on this stage was a minister, another was an ambassador. A uniformed policeman arrives and takes the picture. If there is no terrible mismanagement, the police come here and take pictures? Such misconduct is because we are living in a suffocating situation.

Rizvi said, the strong pillar of democracy is its institution. The institutions are courts, administration, election commission and media. A country that does not guarantee freedom of the media is not a democratic country, it is a Nazi country. A country where courts cannot judge independently is not a democratic country at all.

He also said that I was surprised by the Chief Election Commissioner’s statement about the Barisal election. He said – there was a fair and free election. But there I saw a Maulana, that mayoral candidate had his teeth broken. If Maulana Sahib had been killed, they might have said that the election was a little conflicted, there was violence. It seems so in the words of the Chief Election Commissioner. It is called fascist rule, it is called anti-people rule.
