“People’s demands should be confirmed by changing the constitution”

Jamaat-e-Islami’s central vice-emir and former member of parliament Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher said, “Constitution of the country should be changed and people’s rights should be confirmed. Elections are essential elements of democracy. It should be free and fair. To do that, it has to be done under a caretaker government. But they vote during the day at night. Shame is part of faith. Leaders should have some shame. So let’s say 2014 and 2018 are gone. This year 2024 will not go like that. If Awami League understands then come and discuss. This year’s election will be under caretaker government. We will do whatever is necessary to achieve that demand, inshallah.
He said these things while addressing the chief guest at the meeting of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the Engineers Institution auditorium in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
Md. Taher said, “Today, if the country’s rulers and people are honest, it would be a donor country. But I could not do that. If you can’t help us. Only then will the country change. Everything will be fine inshallah.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held an indoor rally in the capital after a long decade. Prevention of rising commodity prices, Dr. Ameer Jamaat. National leaders including Shafiqur Rahman and Ulamay Keram’s release and demanding the establishment of a caretaker government system were organized by the Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat. After various dramas, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) allowed the rally on Friday night on verbal terms. After that, this rally started with recitation of Quran and performance of patriotic songs at the Engineers Institution Auditorium of the capital on Saturday at 2 pm. As there is not enough space in the auditorium of the institution, many activists are present in the open spaces outside and on the footpaths. At one stage, the presence of activists was blocked by going to the main road. As a result, traffic on the Shahbagh-bound road from Matsyabhaban crossing was blocked. Leaders and activists Jamaat Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman raised slogans demanding the release of the party’s central leaders. Along with the speech, various Islamic songs were performed and poems were recited. A large number of law enforcement personnel were deployed around the Engineers Institution around the rally.
