A disabled child was raped while studying in a school in Mahmadpur village of Ghaznaipur union of Nabiganj upazila. The imam of the mosque named Abu Taher (32) was arrested by the police in this incident.

Nabiganj Thana police arrested Abu Taher yesterday afternoon and sent him to jail through the court. He is the son of Abdus Sobhan, Imam of a Jame Masjid in Mahmudpur village of Ghaznaipur Union.

According to the source of the victim’s family, the local disabled child went to study Arabic in the Jame Masjid of Mahmudpur village like every day on Wednesday morning. At one point, the imam of the mosque, Abu Taher, raped the disabled child in the bathroom of the mosque. Later, the disabled child went home and informed the family. After receiving the news last Thursday evening, a police team headed by Inspector Samchuuddin Khan of Goplar Bazar (Investigation) Center took the victim’s statement after visiting the spot. Accused Abu Taher was detained for questioning later that night.

On Friday, the father of the disabled child filed a case against the accused Abu Taher at the Nabiganj police station. In the afternoon, Abu Taher was sent to jail by the court.

In this regard, Nabiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Dalim Ahmed said that a case has been filed in this incident. Accused Abu Taher has been arrested and sent to jail.
