BNP held a sit-in program in Sylhet against loadshedding and corruption in the electricity sector by taking the hurricane in hand.
The party held this program in front of the Power Development Board of Sylhet Bagbari Nawab Road on Thursday afternoon.
During the stay, there was a traffic jam in Nawab Road and Osmani Medical area. Meanwhile, BNP leaders and activists held hurricanes in their hands and chanted various slogans.
At the end of the program, when the party leaders and activists wanted to meet the chief officer of the Power Development Board with the memorandum, the police prevented them. Later, a delegation of BNP presented the memorandum to the Chief Engineer.
Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, advisor to the party chairperson, spoke as the chief guest in the program. He said that the government has chosen the power sector for corruption. The electricity situation is dire due to corruption and looting. In the name of capacity charge, the government has so far looted over one lakh crore rupees. He said that 33 thousand 775 crore rupees have been allocated for the power department in the next fiscal year, which is about 40 percent more than the current fiscal year.

Meanwhile, in view of BNP’s program, the electricity department has taken precautions in various electricity offices, power generation and substation centers since Thursday morning. On Wednesday night, the electricity department also sent a letter for police assistance. Accordingly, on this day, the police strengthened patrolling with positions in various offices and centers. In this regard, Chief Engineer of Sylhet Power Division Abdur Quader said that additional precautions have been taken in the power plant and office from Thursday. Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sudip Das told Samakal that the police were active in keeping the BNP’s program in front. Power plants, substations and offices have been monitored.
